Bolger hoping Mossey can bounce back Enda Bolger is hoping Mossey Joe can recapture some of his old spark in the Raymond Smith Memorial Hunters Steeplechase at Leopardstown on Sunday. The 12-year-old cost owner Barry Connell £160,000 at the sales in January of last year but has won just one point-to-point since and pulled up between the flags on his only outing this season. Connections have taken their time with the gelding since that poor run in November and are hoping that better ground at the Dublin track will now make a difference. "To say he has been a disappointment would be an understatement and he definitely hasn't shown what he could do two years ago," said Bolger. "He's in good form, though. He ran in a point-to-point and was pulled up before Christmas so we said we'd wait with him and the better ground at Leopardstown should suit. "Barry (Connell) is local to the track and wants to go there." Bolger also runs On The Fringe, who is expected to improve from his seasonal debut when well beaten by Oscar Barton at Down Royal on St Stephen's Day. Conditions were very testing at the northern track in December and JP McManus' charge, a three-time winner of the Champion Hunters Chase at Punchestown, is another who should appreciate the drying ground. "He probably met a good horse on the day and was well held. He's definitely fitter now and in good nick so we're looking forward to the run," said Bolger "He won around Killarney in May and flew around there so the ground won't be an issue. The issue might be Prince De Beauchene, who looks good. He looks a smart horse for hunter chasing." The Limerick handler will see how his pair perform before making any future plans. "We'll see how they go on Sunday. Mossey Joe ran well at Liverpool (Aintree) last year but we'll have to see how he does on Sunday," said the trainer.
