Bolger weighs up options for classic hope Gan Amhras Jim Bolger is weighing up the options for Gan Amhras after deciding against taking up an engagement in the P.W.McGrath Memorial Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown on Sunday. A hugely impressive winner of a Naas maiden as a juvenile, the Galileo colt was last seen finishing a half-length second in the Goffs Million at the Curragh. With soft ground likely to prevail at Leopardstown this weekend, Bolger has elected to keep his powder dry with Gan Amhras, and the Dante Stakes at York or the Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh are among the options. 'Gan Amhras likes good ground so we would be thinking about the Dante or the Irish Guineas for him,' said Bolger. 'I only decided this morning that he wouldn't run on Sunday so those are the alternatives.' The Coolcullen trainer sends over Maoineach, an impressive winner of the Leopardstown 1,000 Guineas Trial Stakes on her seasonal reappearance, for the Dubai Duty Free Stakes at Newbury tomorrow. The Congaree filly finished last of 16 in the Marcel Boussac at Longchamp last October but Bolger feels the loose ground was against her that day. 'She's very well and has done well since her last race. It was the loose ground that she didn't like at Longchamp last year - she doesn't mind it soft,' said Bolger. 'She was pretty good last year and won a Group race first time on the track. It was good to firm at Leopardstown last time and she put up a good show. We'll take each race as it comes with her, and she has plenty of options.'
