Bookmakers go home happy after Golan's win

Wins for Tony Martin trained horses aren't usually welcomed by the bookmaking community but they'll have been happy enough to see the Seamie Heffernan ridden 10/1 shot, Golan Guy land the concluding Cruise Ulster Cesarewitch Handicap at Down Royal.

This fellow has course winning form to his name (in a maiden hurdle in May) but after disappointing last time he drifted from 8/1 out to 10/1. However he got to the front inside the final two furlongs before going on to outpoint Mutiska by three parts of a length.

Martin said: "That was no bother to him trip wise (2m 2f). He's been very consistent and won his maiden hurdle here.

"I'll mix it with him over hurdles and on the flat. Things didn't work out for him last time (10th at Wexford under Johnny Murtagh) but we expected a good showing tonight."
