Sean Bowen partnered the Olly Murphy-trained Harbour Island to victory at Ffos Las to claim his 200th winner of the season.

Elite Milestone Reached At Emotional Home Track

The champion jockey – who won the title with 180 successes last season – had two lengths to find approaching the final flight in the two-and-a-half-mile novice hurdle but jumped ahead of Rathkenny and the evens favourite galloped readily clear to win by eight lengths.

Bowen is just the fifth rider to notch 200 winners in a season Britain, alongside Sir Anthony McCoy, Brian Hughes, Richard Johnson and Peter Scudamore.

It was brilliant to do it here. Obviously it’s my home track. “It’s brilliant to do it for Olly, who’s been a big supporter, and while my mum and dad are here.

Dominant Strike Rate Puts Historic Records In Sight

The 28-year-old is bowling along at a strike-rate of 25 per cent with his 200th winner coming from his 804th ride of the season.

The next target for Bowen is McCoy’s record of 289.

Bowen said: “It was brilliant to do it here. Obviously it’s my home track.

Meanwhile, William Hill have paid out early on Bowen retaining his jockeys’ title with his nearest rival Harry Skelton more than 100 behind him on 98.
