Boyfriend Brian quickened up smartly to make a winning debut for Ger Lyons in the opening two-year-old maiden at Bellewstown tonight.

The Big Bad Bob gelding was sent off 5/2 favourite for the extended seven-furlong contest and tracked the leaders under Colin Keane.

The well-backed Future Frontier (16/1 this morning into 7/2), who had the benefit of a couple of runs, was soon in front for Shane Foley.

He had no answer when passed a furlong-and-a-half from home by Boyfriend Brian, however, and the winner galloped on strongly in the closing stages to post a comprehensive six-length success.

The trainer's brother and assistant Shane said:- “I'm delighted with that. He was only ready to start off today and will come on buckets from that.

“He's never been on grass before but has got a great attitude, and is one for the back of the year."
