Martin Brassil is hoping the marathon trip will bring out the best in Desertmore House in the Boylesports Irish Grand National next Monday.
The nine-year-old has already hit the headlines this season with victory in the Kerry National at Listowel in September and is prominent in the betting for the big race at Fairyhouse.
He warmed up for the three-mile-six contest with a spin over hurdles at Naas last month, finishing an eye-catching third, and Brassil is hoping to strike again in the €500,000 Easter feature.
The Curragh handler won the race with Numvbersixvalverde back in 2005 and he told Denis Kirwan there are a lot of similarities between both horses:-
“He didn't run over fences until he was eight and this fella was the same. They are well mature and not over-raced over hurdles.
“Desertmore House was almost at the end of his six-year-old career when he won his point-to-point, first time out.
“Stamina isn't a problem with him, he was placed over three-miles and won over three miles. I think the further he goes the better he will be.”
