Break now for Naas winner Sandiva

Sandiva is to wait for an autumn campaign following her effort in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Trainer Richard Fahey felt the filly slightly under-performed when beaten three and a quarter lengths into second place by Kiyoshi in the Group Three over six furlongs last Friday.

The daughter of Footstepsinthesand was sent off favourite after winning a Listed contest at Naas and was sold by Middleham Park Racing to Sheikh Joaan Al Thani just days before the Royal meeting.

"I don't think she performed 100% on the day. The ground was pretty quick and she didn't travel as well early in the race and she may have been feeling the effects of her race at Naas," the Malton handler told At The Races.

"Take nothing away from the winner she beat us fair and square and probably would do so if we met again.

"I just feel our filly didn't perform to the best of her ability on the day.

"She's definitely having a little break now and we will have a back-end campaign with her."

Fahey was over the moon with the effort of Ladys First in finishing a half-length second to Duntle in the Duke of Cambridge Stakes.

He now hopes the filly will receive an invitation for the Beverly D Stakes at Arlington in August.

"We were delighted with her. She's a very game filly and I'm quite keen to take her to the Beverly D at Arlington. If she gets an invite that's where she'll go," said Fahey.

"I think one-mile-one round two turns is just what she needs and she doesn't mind fast ground. We'll try to get her there."
