Barry Browne is appealing the decision of the Fairyhouse stewards to suspend him for seven days for his use of the whip when successful aboard On The Shannon on Easter Monday.

The Oliver McKiernan-trained gelding won the Fred Kenny Service To Racing Novice Handicap Chase on the BoyleSports Irish Grand National card but Browne was in trouble with the stewards on a number of accounts.

He was found to have used his whip with excessive frequency, of hitting his mount in front of the saddle with his whip in the forehand position and also failing to give his mount time to respond to the whip.

The stewards took his previous record into consideration, and also ordered that he attend RACE for a one days tuition on the correct use of the whip.
