Buoyant trade on day 1 at Tattersalls The Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale got off to a tremendous start with the best day one results since 2007. The figures make impressive reading with an average of €19,739 up 41% on last year, while the aggregate sales of €3,750,500 were ahead by 12% despite 62 fewer lots catalogued compared to 12 months ago. A total of 7 lots sold for €50,000 or more, with the highlight being the €115,000 paid by agent Ross Doyle for a US-bred colt by Twirling Candy. After Doyle fought off strong competition from Sean Quinn and Richard Knight, he commented, "I have not seen any by Twirling Candy before but if they look like this horse, then he'll be ok. "Richard Hannon Snr trained this colt’s dam Blue Angel and she was a 102-rated filly. There looks to be a lot of the dam-sire Oratorio about this horse and we've been lucky with him. This is a very nice individual." Bobby O'Ryan paid €110,000 for a Dark Angel colt for an owner with Dermot Weld. He's a grandson of the Group 3 winner Lady Alexander, dam of the Listed-winning sprinter Dandy Man. "He's a good individual with a nice pedigree," said O'Ryan.
