Byrnes Plan

Charles Byrnes is in no rush to make any future plans for Solwhit following his game victory in the John Smith's Aintree Hurdle on Saturday.

Having won the November Handicap on the level at Leopardstown the five-year-old has gone on to win three of his four starts over obstacles culminating in the Grade One victory on Merseyside.

Byrnes reports his stable star to have come out of that triumph in fine form and is now considering a tilt at the Rabobank Champion Hurdle at Punchestown on May 1.

"He is back home safely and seems to have taken the race well," said Byrnes.

"We were delighted with him and he battled on really well so we will enter him in the two-miler at Punchestown and just see how he is nearer the time."

Byrnes is hopeful Solwhit could make up into a Champion Hurdle contender for next season but admits he will have to continue to progress.

"I'm hoping he might go that way but I can only hope at the moment and we will have to see how he goes," Byrnes continued.

"The horse that was second the other day (Fiveforthree) is probably a three-mile chaser so we will have to see."

Byrnes also had news of his Cheltenham Festival winner Weapons Amnesty, who had to settle for fifth in the Sefton Novices' Hurdle at Aintree.

"He will now be roughed-off for the season and all being well he will go novice chasing next season. He is something to look forward to," Byrnes concluded.
