Cadmium has Ryanair Gold Cup target Cadmium could be set for a sharp rise in class in the Ryanair Gold Cup at Fairyhouse on Easter Sunday. The Willie Mullins-trained six-year-old made a successful start to his Irish career in a maiden hurdle at Limerick in December 2016, but was then sidelined for over a year after suffering a pelvic injury. He shaped with some promise when third behind stablemates Bonbon Au Miel and Turcagua on his comeback run and chasing debut at Navan in January, and raised his game to get back on the winning trail at Fairyhouse late last month. Mullins immediately nominated a return to the Ratoath venue for the Ryanair Gold Cup as a possible target, and Steve Massey, racing manager for owners Supreme Horse Racing, is hoping he can provide the successful syndicate with a second Grade One success at Fairyhouse following Airlie Beach's triumph in last season's Royal Bond Novice Hurdle. Massey said: "He was out for over a year after his first run for us and needed the run on his comeback at Navan. "We expected him to improve going into the Fairyhouse race and we were all delighted with him, particularly as he jumped so well. "It's a little bit of a shame we didn't get him out a bit sooner as he could have ended up at Cheltenham if we had, but there are plenty of nice races in Ireland he can go for in the spring and he's an exciting prospect for the rest of this season and the future. "Willie mentioned the Ryanair Gold Cup back at Fairyhouse as a possible target, which would obviously be a big step up, but it's exciting all the same."
