Caislean Gear wraps up raucous Festival

Roscommon form reversed as Caislean Gear turns over the 2/11 favourite Linford in the Galway Festival finale, the Fr. Breen Memorial (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race, over two miles.

Beaten favourite on his most recent start, Andy Slattery’s gelding raced in third for most of this bumper.

Adam Ryan pulled the son of Galileo Chrome out and he cruised past his two rivals to hit the front under two furlongs out.

The 13/2 shot kept on strongly when ridden out to the line, to score by six lengths, giving the Taceec Syndicate a double for the week after Eddie G’s earlier success.

“That was super. They are all local men. To have a horse good enough to come here and win at the festival makes it that bit more special. We were only beaten five-lengths by Linford on our first run above in Roscommon on softer ground,” detailed jockey Ryan.

“We feel like he is improving away the whole time, so we were quietly confident. He just kept stepping forward in his work at home and he is a nice horse."
