A popped champagne cork launched from Tramore's presentation stand cleared the parade ring’s perimeter today as the aptly-named Pints & Prosecco Syndicate celebrated success with enigmatic Aclass (7/2) in the 2026 Group Package Deals Beginners Chase.

Ridden by Jordan Canavan, Aclass raced with the pace and having led at the second-last, held on for a 6.5 lengths success over Mount Shenshan .

It was Canavan’s first Irish win since March 2022, with the 7lb claimer reporting “that's my first winner as an amateur jockey but I had eight as a conditional including four or five in America.

“I recently returned following a three month stint in America with Leslie Young. I loved every minute of it, had some big race rides and I won a Grand National over timber. I'll ride in point-to-points if anyone will have me and hopefully that winner will give me a springboard now."

Winning local trainer John Flavin was lobbed by the cork, and added “going down to the last I thought Aclass could jam-on or anything, because he was going to win in Boulta one day but ran off the track.

“I used to ride him myself at home and him leaping around every day, but since Jordan arrived into my yard three months ago, he now rides him. I had to give him at least one go in a race.

“Jordan had been in America but rang me to say he was living locally and could he work for me. He works hard, is a very good rider, so hopefully gets more opportunities.

“Today’s win was a bonus for Aclass and while it wasn’t a very good beginners chase, he is a very good jumper and hopefully today’s win will give him confidence.”
