A promising third at Ballinrobe, High Notions (11/8 fav) stepped forward from that debut to win the Adare Manor Opportunity Mares Maiden Hurdle  at Fairyhouse.

Shane O'Callaghan sat second on the daughter of Affinisea as Apples Jane went off into a clear lead and, as the front-runner tired, the winner went on before the second-last.

Newcomer Susie Lenglen covered the move and threw down a strong challenge after the last but was held by three-parts of a length, with both the winner (edged left before and after the final flight) and the runner-up looking green in the closing stages.

Sonny Carey, who trains the winner for the I'm Going To No Home Syndicate, said: “Shane was very good on her, it wasn’t easy the way the race was ran, so it was great for him.

“It was great for the lads, that’s the second horse they’ve had — they were unlucky as the first mare was killed in Tramore.”

“She wouldn’t show much at home and we weren’t expecting her to run so well at Ballinrobe. She’s improving, so it’s great.

“She’s not big but she’s tough. We’ll see what mark she gets and go from there, make a little plan.

“I wouldn’t say she would be a middle of winter filly. She’s kind of surprised us up to now so we’ll let her keep going for a little bit anyway.”
