Having run with credit in a trio of similar races before Christmas, the Pat Flynn trained Carrigans Grove opened her account on her first start of the new year when running out a game winner of the Saturday 12th July Ladies Day At Dundalk Stadium Handicap.

Always prominent under Gary Carroll, the daughter of Churchill travelled noticeably easily entering the straight, as Far At Sea led the way.

Moving closer to throw down a challenge under two out, Carrigan's Grove led at the furlong pole. Strongly pressed by Beano Power inside the final 200 yards, the 16/1 chance found plenty for pressure to run out a game neck winner. Jackandthefox kept on well to take third, with My Girl Sioux back in fourth place.

Gary Carroll said: "She ran well the last meeting before Christmas (in fourth).

"She was out of a very fast mare, Queen Grace.

"Jumped, travelled there today and she tried and stayed going. She might get six (furlongs) in time.

"She had a really good blow, so I think she could improve for it.

"When they jump and try like that and have a bit of speed, you are hoping she might progress.

"He (Flynn) was hopeful, but he thought it was her first run since Christmas and thought she might need it. She did, but I'm hoping she will improve from it."
