Cash out in the cold Cold snaps fail to deter any of the hardy souls and jockey Barry Cash is one who keeps his 'eye in' despite battling layers of snow and ice. Cash, a senior Grade 1 and Cheltenham winning jockey, is an active member of the Meath Foxhounds during the winter, and while there hasn't been any hunting for two weeks, Cash, along with numerous other jockeys, keeps busy exercising his hunters. Cash says "there are plenty of jockeys like myself who hunt regularly - Tommy Treacy, Shay Barry and Mike Darcy are all regulars while others like Robbie Power, Paddy Flood, Slippers Madden and Davy Condon hunt quite often too." "The Meaths hunt three times a week and while I hunt once or twice a week, would go four times if given the time and money! My pocket doesn't allow it but things are very quiet, financially, everywhere at present." "I often buy and sell hunters but have had just two or three hunters on-the-go myself this season. The market for good hunters is pretty much as per usual but I know of horses which lads cant sell - Tommy Treacy has a huntsman's horse which he has been trying to sell for months for example." "Norman Williamson is in his first year as Master of the Meath Foxhounds and the huntsmen are brothers John and Kenny Henry from Courtown, near Kells." Regarding his racecourse plans, Cash adds "I'll be riding in both Leopardstown and Limerick over Christmas. I hope to ride Alpine Glade, for Willie McCreery, in the good three miles hurdle at Leopardstown and will be at Limerick a few days too - Burnt Oil Babe is one of my better rides there." Cash has ridden ten winners so far this season.
