Chance Keen On Chandler Bid

Noel Chance is likely to run River City in the Victor Chandler Chase at Ascot on Saturday week even though his 10-year-old will now be one of the top weights.

River City was allotted 11st 3lb in the £140,000 handicap over two miles and one furlong, but the weights are set to rise by at least 5lb following reports that Foreman, Voy Por Ustedes and Central House are going to miss the race.

That would leave Sporazene as the only horse between him and the burden of humping 11st 10lb round the Berkshire track.

River City was fourth to Voy Por Ustedes in the Desert Orchid Chase at Kempton over Christmas and would meet runner-up Oneway and Foreman on more favourable terms at Ascot.

'At the moment he's a definite runner. I was hoping Foreman would run to keep the weights right and I don't relish the weights going up,' said Chance.

'He's in good shape. He's improved for his last run and I was looking forward to him taking on Foreman again as our horse would be meeting him on 12lb better terms than at Kempton.

'His owner is away and I'll speak to her when she comes back, but she is keen to run.'

River City is 12-1 with the sponsors for the Victor Chandler Chase.
