Coronation in Bethrah's sights Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum's racing manager Angus Gold believes a crack at the Coronation Stakes with Irish 1000 Guineas winner Bethrah could prove too tempting to resist. The Dermot Weld-trained filly would need to be supplemented for the Royal Ascot contest, won by Ghanaati in the Sheikh's colours last season. But after her last-gasp win in the Classic at the Curragh, the Coronation could be her next stop before stepping up in trip. "It was a slight surprise that she was able to win a Classic. Obviously we knew she was a nice filly, but she's improved a lot in quite a short time," said Gold. "We always thought a lot of her last season which is why Dermot let her make her debut in the sales race (Goffs Million Sprint) which at the time looked optimistic but I can see why now. "The team have done a great job over the winter and it was a great result for them. "I personally thought after she won her Group Three that she would get further, but I'm sure that if she is well Sheikh Hamdan will give consideration to the Coronation so we'll just see how she is and have a think. "I'd be surprised if she didn't stay further - it's not set in stone and you never know, but I think we'll be stepping her up in trip at some stage this season. "I just feel that Sheikh Hamdan might want to go for the Coronation to give her another run over a mile, but we'll take it one step at a time."
