Coshocton launches Derby bid

Coshocton bids to book his place in the Vodafone Derby with a good run in the Letheby & Christopher Predominate Stakes at Goodwood.

The Michael Jarvis-trained colt was only 15th to Rock Of Gibraltar in the Sagitta 2000 Guineas but a better show is expected in the Listed race over 11 furlongs next Tuesday.

And the son of Silver Hawk put in an impressive piece of work on the Limekilns at Newmarket today.

'He worked nicely and runs in the Predominate,' said Jarvis.

'I was very happy with his work and we`ll see how he goes next week before we make any further plans.'

Jarvis has already put a line through Coshocton`s Guineas run.

'He hit the gates a bit too quick at Newmarket and they went all over the track,' he remarked.

Jarvis reported that Hawkeye had returned in fine shape following his trip to Singapore where he finished fifth in the Singapore Airlines International Cup on Saturday.

'He came back on Monday and he`s fine. He took the race and the trip well. He doesn`t look any the worse for wear and I`m very happy with his condition.

'I think we`ll go a mile and a half next in a race to be decided. The Hardwicke at Royal Ascot would be a possible, but there`s been no firm decision made yet,' added the trainer.
