Mick Halford's Cosmic Vega is set to skip Irish Champions Festival for the Concorde Stakes over an extended seven furlongs at Tipperary in October.

Cosmic Vega tops the weights for the €150,000 Irish Stallion Farms EBF 'Sovereign Path' Handicap at Leopardstown on day one of the festival at Leopardstown next Saturday, but the trainer has earmarked Tipperary for his next outing.

Halford said: "He won't go (for the Sovereign Path), I gave him a break there and he will probably wait for Tipperary on 1st October over seven and a-half and he will go there. It is Listed - I think it used to be a Group 3 - the Concorde Stakes. I'll freshen him up and go there.

"He didn't have a lot of luck in running (in fifth at Killarney last month), Ronan (Whelan) dropped him in and it didn't sort of happen for him, and he couldn't get out when he wanted to get out. A 3lb penalty for winning a Listed race didn't help.

"Maybe I knocked the edge off him running in Cork (on his penultimate start), Ronan didn't think so but I was annoyed with myself.

"Tipperary could be his place."

Cosmic Vega has four career victories including in Listed class at Naas in May.
