Larne, Co Antrim based trainer Stuart Crawford completed an opening races double at Navan today, when his Jimmy Breekie under Eamonn Corbett, landed the Annual Family Day 20th May Maiden Hurdle.

Crawford’s Our Valentina under Paul Townend, had earlier won the opening mares’ maiden hurdle and Jimmy Breekie, a bumper winner and runner-up on his latest start over hurdles, arrived with a well timed challenge and also capitalised on the final flight error by eventual runner-up Coeur Joyeux to win under Corbett.

Crawford wasn't present but following the race winning jockey Corbett stated “the trick to him is to take him back and get him to jump. Once he jumps well he's a nice horse and he should go on to do a bit more for them hopefully,” said Corbett.

“He was a bit unlucky the last day. The horse in front (eventual winner Never Off Duty) stopped and then he idled a bit in front and the other horse got back up to beat him. He was due that.”
