Creditable Second For Bandari

Mark Johnston´s Bandari had to settle for second place in Cologne as Darsalam ran on strongly to claim the Group One Rheinland-Pokal der Sparkasse KolnBonn.

Johnston´s six-year-old, who was last seen landing the Hardwicke Stakes at the Royal meeting, was always handy under Richard Hills but could not stay with the winner down the home straight.

Czech raider Darsalam was taking a massive drop in trip, back to a mile and a half, having ran over marathon distances of late, with the four-year-old finishing ninth in the Gold Cup at York on his last outing.
