The Mick Winters trained Crowsatedappletart followed up his recent course win when staying on well to beat Charles Pride in the Wexford Racecourse Supporters Club Handicap Chase.

Always front rank under Gavin Brouder, the 4/1 chance was pushed along after two out, as Liam Quinlan went on aboard the eventual runner-up.

However, despite dropping back three-furlongs in trip from last time, Crowsatedappletart came through to challenge Charlies Pride on the run to the penultimate fence.

Nothing separated the two horses from the back of the last, until the Winters trained gelding asserted inside the last 100 yards to score by three-quarters-of-a-length.

Gavin Brouder said: "He is a horse with a mind of his own. He likes things to be happening quick to keep him interested. Jumping off back over two miles left him on the backfoot a little bit. Good jumps over the first couple left him in a good position and I had a nice bit of room down the inner.

"He's just such a tough horse and it's like he is coming into his prime now. He got checked and ran out of room approaching the straight but still battled his way back up the run-in.

"I rode him in Cork and won on him in December. It was plenty yielding ground, borderline soft. It was over two-and-a-half miles and I thought he wanted every inch of it. For Mick to sharpen him up for today, dropping back in trip on better ground, it was a good performance."
