Better ground proved to be the making of Joseph O'Brien's Dawn Spirit on her third start in the Irish EBF SpringSeries Median Auction Fillies Maiden at Cork.

She went on in the final quarter of a mile and soon had the field toiling a furlong and a-half down as she powered away for home.

It was only Inventress the 11/4 favourite, who tried to go with her but she was outgunned by three and a-quarter lengths. Siorai (25/1) was almost four lengths further adrift in third.

Dylan Browne McMonagle said: "She is a nice filly, has always shown more at home than in her two runs but the last day she didn't like being crowded. Today I broke well and was able to get up behind the leaders and I had a nice target to aim at. She quickened up well.

"She is a big filly and will probably improved plenty from her first start of the year in the Curragh and hopefully it is onwards and upwards now. I'm sure she'll have no problem going 1m4f."
