County Wexford trainer and former amateur rider Willie Codd has passed away aged 43.

Codd had built up a great reputation in the past decade as a producer of top class National Hunt talent, with many of his young stock making big prices at the sales.

Tranquil Sea, Tell Us More, Alisier D'Irlande and Stellar Notion were just some of the horses to pass through his hands.

His training prowess was advertised in recent seasons by the progressive Tellthemnuttin who he saddled to win six times, with four of those coming at his local track in Wexford.

Codd also enjoyed success as an amateur rider including the victory of What Odds in the 2003 Champion Hunter Chase at the Punchestown Festival.

His brother Jamie was crowned Champion Amateur Rider last season and has also won the Champion Point-to-Point title twice.
