Delay helps Baggot Street gain maiden success A going-change which followed Navan’s delayed beginning today was credited with Baggot Street’s (33/1) win in the Flower Hill Apprentice Handicap, scoring her maiden success for trainer John O’Donoghue, owner Pierce Molony and jockey Rory Mulligan. Today’s opener was delayed 53 minutes as the course awaited the arrival of medical personnel and while the going was initially described as ‘good’, heavy showers resulted in a change to ‘yielding’ by Baggot’s Street’s second-race, which was 42 minutes behind schedule. On lucky run number 13, and a first start for trainer O’Donoghue, the Oasis Dream-filly raced prominently, led inside the final furlong and scored by three-parts of a length from Imnotleavinyou . O'Donoghue revealed "the delay was fortunate for us, as the rain which fell during that time helped this filly. "She has run very effectively for Charlie (Johnston) all last year, so we had a good line on her. We felt by keeping it simple racing from the front over six furlongs would suit and she has nicked it there. "Pierce (Molony, owner) is a good supporter of us and I'd imagine she will head off to the breeding shed. She has a great pedigree and is now a winner, so it is job done on our part."
