Denman connections weigh up options

Denman is likely to return to action in either the Hennessy Gold Cup or the Betfair Chase.

Paul Nicholls' charge is a dual winner of the Newbury showpiece but is not certain to head back there.

"He'll have an entry and we'll decide nearer the time where we go, having had a look at the weights," the trainer told At The Races.

"If he doesn't go there he could go for the Betfair Chase at Haydock if Kauto Star goes to Down Royal. It's all in the melting pot and we won't make any decisions until later on."

Neptune Collonges, who has been sidelined since finishing fourth to Kauto Star in the 2009 totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup, is back cantering.

Nicholls has yet to draw up a firm plan for John Hales' gelding but the Hennessy Gold Cup could come under consideration.

"He looks fantastic and is cantering away. I'm very, very happy with him, he looks great. I haven't discussed any long-term plans with John but I suspect we'll have an entry for the Hennessy Gold Cup but he's cantering and started last week," Nicholls said of the dual Punchestown Guinness Gold Cup winner.
