Denman in action at Aintree today

Paul Nicholls believes Denman will be "very hard to beat" as he bids to get off the mark for the season in the totesport Bowl at Aintree today.

Things had not gone according to plan for Denman following his brilliant win of the Cheltenham Gold Cup last year and the nine-year-old bids to get back to winning ways at Aintree today.

A fibrillating heart problem caused his seasonal reappearance to be delayed and made his reappearance at Kempton in February when he was well beaten by Madison Du Berlais.

However, his second to brilliant stablemate Kauto Star in the blue riband at Prestbury Park last month was much more like it and having made significant progress, it looks ominous for his Aintree opponents.

Nicholls said: "While the track is tight enough for him, he is at least going the right way round.

"He has improved enormously since Cheltenham and he will be very hard to beat with a bit of luck."
