A maiden winner at Kilbeggan in August, the Ciaran Murphy-trained Facile Ocean emulated opening race-winner Euro Agent by making virtually all in Downpatrick's Denis Macauley Memorial Novice Handicap Hurdle over two miles and a furlong.

The Affinisea gelding was joined by fellow 2/1 joint-favourite Lygon Lad , but a mistake by the latter left Eoghan Finegan's mount back in front and he stayed on well to account for Papagei by a length and a quarter.

Stable representative Dot Love said: "He ran a genuine race and he jumped well. He still had a bit in the tank and Eoghan was very, very happy with him.

"It is great for Sheila (Gavin, owner) and she will be thrilled to see this. Delighted for her.

"If nothing else, he will make a lovely hunter. I think he will be a nice chaser as well.

"Lovely horse to deal with when he settles and today, he was so good. He is fit, he is well, and he is beginning to calm down. He used to be more nervous.

"Of course, a smaller field is nice if you are a bit anxious, but he wasn't anxious."
