Frankie Dettori celebrated with a flying dismount as he rode his first winner since returning from a six-month suspension for a failed drugs test at Sandown on Thursday evening.

Partnering the well-backed 5/2 favourite Asian Trader for William Haggas, the Italian had to wait for a gap to open, but his mount was always travelling well and quickened up tidily at the furlong-pole to beat Alnoomaas by half a length.

Dettori returned to the winner's enclosure to a warm reception and produced some of his old theatrics when he leapt off in the winner's enclosure.

The jockey had been due to make his comeback at Leicester two and a half weeks ago, but France Galop, the authority who banned him following his positive test for cocaine last September, were not prepared to clear the rider until a "private matter" had been resolved.

France Galop finally issued the all-clear last Thursday but the news came too late for Dettori to fulfil his main aim of having a ride in the Investec Derby.
