Listowel’s Harvest Festival kicks off on Sunday and we have seven days of racing action to look forward to. There really is something for everyone at Listowel as there’s a good mix of both Flat and Jumps racing across the week.

The festival itself holds historic significance to Ireland and it always attracts a big and lively crowd. Its atmosphere is famous and the main event of the week is the very valuable Kerry National, which is definitely one to look forward to.

With the racing taking place across both codes, we’ve selected five jockeys with proven records at the track who could be worth following.

Garry Carroll

Garry Carroll is an established name in the weighing room and it’s easy to see why. He’s a consistent performer who rarely makes a mistake and the fact that he gets the odd spare ride for Aidan O’Brien tells you how well respected he is.

Listowel has been a pretty good course for him over the last five years and he has 12 winners from 65 rides, which gives him a strike-rate of 18 per cent. You would imagine he’ll be getting plenty of rides in Listowel’s Flat races and he knows how to win here.

Jack Kennedy

Jack Kennedy grew up in County Kerry and Listowel is likely to have personal significance for him.

Injuries have plagued him in the last few years but his ability in the saddle can’t be questioned. Gordon Elliott will have plenty of chances and Kennedy will too.

It’s worth noting that his strike-rate isn’t as high as most of the jockeys on this list, with five winners from 32 rides in the last five seasons, but Elliott has a good record in the Kerry National and more winners could be on the cards this week.

Wayne Lordan

Wayne Lordan has been around the block a few times and he has a very good record at Listowel in recent years. He has a strike-rate of 24 per cent over the last five years, with eight winners from just 34 rides.

Aidan O’Brien usually sends runners over to Listowel, especially in the maidens, and Lordan is therefore likely to get his pick of some smart horses.

Patrick Mullins

It’s no surprise that Patrick Mullins has an exceptional strike-rate at Listowel as the top amateur never has many rides, but the few he does have tend to have really big chances.

Ten winners from just 22 rides is an excellent return and more winners could be on the way.

Jump racing dominates most of the Harvest Festival’s action and it’s likely that we’ll see Mullins at Listowel, where many will be interested in which horses he ends up riding.

Paul Townend

Willie Mullins’ main man has ridden a total of 48 winners at Listowel and he’ll be looking to pass the 50 mark sooner rather than later.

He has 22 winners from just 55 rides in the last five seasons and, with that in mind, it’s likely that he’ll be in the mix once again.

Townend already has 16 winners from his 60 rides during the current campaign thus far and it will be a big shock if he comes away without adding to his tally.
