Distinction Still Melbourne-Bound

Gold Cup runner-up Distinction remains on course for the Emirates Melbourne Cup on November 1 despite disappointing in the GNER Doncaster Cup on Thursday.

Sir Michael Stoute´s six-year-old could only finish sixth in the stayers´ race on Town Moor despite being sent off the well-backed 5-4 favourite.

However, Harry Herbert, racing manager for owners Highclere Thoroughbred Racing, pointed to the ground for Distinction´s reverse and reports him to still be an intended runner in Australia.

'The ground was quite loose with the rain having not got in properly and he couldn´t go on it,' said Herbert.

'As long as Sir Michael is pleased with him, Melbourne is still very much the plan and we are hoping for the usual weather down there - which means the track will be pretty quick and that is what he loves.'
