Doire All The Rage For Becher

Dun Doire is the horse the sponsors fear in the totesport.com Becher Chase at Aintree on Sunday.

The seven-year-old, trained in Ireland by Tony Martin, is 11-2 favourite with totesport for the three-mile-three-furlong test over the Grand National fences.

He racked up a six-timer with victory in the William Hill Trophy at the Cheltenham Festival and warmed up for a new campaign with a run over hurdles at Cork earlier this month.

Damian Walker, spokesman for totesport, said: 'Bookmakers have painful memories of Dun Doire's as he was favourite in five of his six wins last season, including when landing a massive gamble in the Thyestes Chase.

'He improved 58lb, according to the handicapper, and we expect there could be more to come this term ? hence the 11-2 quote.'

Next best at 8-1 in the betting for the Becher Chase is Aintree specialist Clan Royal.

The 11-year-old, owned by JP McManus and trained by Jonjo O'Neill, lifted this prize in 2003 and has been placed in two Grand Nationals.

Other possibles among a 30-strong entry are Forest Gunner, twice a winner over the National fences, Le Duc, Inca Trail, Jack High and Nil Desperandum.
