Dr Eggman (3/1) came forward from his seasonal reappearance at Punchestown last month to land the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden Hurdle at Limerick.

Runner-up on that first start in nearly ten months and placed in four of his five hurdle starts last term, Mrs Susannah Ricci's gelding joined front-running favourite Good N' Kind at the second-last. Not fluent at that flight, he led before the last where a slightly awkward jump didn't halt his momentum much as he accounted for the market leader by a length and a half with the front pair well clear of the remainder.

After Jalila Moriviere in the first, Dr Eggman was completing a double for trainer Willie Mullins.

Rider Paul Townend said: "He has been frustrating but ground conditions suited him a lot today. He had a rating to win something like that but it wasn't a penalty kick either, although he had the run under his belt. At least he has won now."
