Dry week wanted for Sole Power

Edward Lynam is keeping his fingers crossed for a dry week on Merseyside to allow his stable star Sole Power to line up in Saturday's Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock.

The four-year-old is already a course winner having landed the Temple Stakes earlier in the season but he was forced to miss the Nunthorpe at York - his major target of the season - due to unsuitable conditions.

He ran a respectable race when second in a Group Three at the Curragh on Sunday and Lynam believes his star turn is a more potent force when the pace is stronger.

"He's in very good form and as long as the ground is right, he's an intended runner," said Lynam.

"The ground is ideal at the moment, it's just on the fast side of good and that is just what we want.

"This race often ends up being the soft-ground sprint of the season, so that would be a worry, but fingers crossed the rain stays away.

"I was happy enough with his run at the Curragh the other day. He is a much better horse in a race where they go off a bit too quick up front and he can come through later and pick them up.

"He won the Temple Stakes earlier in the season so we know he likes Haydock all right and hopefully he'll run very well.

"We're stepping him back up to six furlongs for the first time in a while but I think we can get him to relax and he should be all right.

"He'll get to the 100-metre pole and we'll see what he's got left afterwards. Keagan Latham will ride him again."
