Dubai Prince quickened well to provide Frankie Dettori with another win in the Sky Bet Strensall Stakes at York.

The four-year-old was considered potential Classic material a couple of seasons ago but his career hadn't taken off as expected having suffered various injury problems since joining Mahmood Al Zarooni.

Dropping back from a mile and a half to nine furlongs at York, he still had each of his rivals in front of him at the top of the home straight after Richard Hughes had set a stop start gallop aboard Fury in the Group Three contest over an intermediate trip of a mile and 208 yards.

Dettori didn't panic, however, with the seven strong field still tightly bunched with just over a furlong to run with last year's second Tazahum the first to strike for home.

Paul Hanagan's move was quickly covered by Dettori - last successful in this race with Rio De La Plata two years ago - and his mount showed a far better turn of foot to assume control of the race.

Tazahum kept on gamely while Side Glance found daylight late on to go in pursuit but the bird had flown and a length and a quarter separated the pair at the line.

The game and consistent Barefoot Lady ran another fine race but was just edged out of the places in fourth.

"This has been a lucky race for me, I think I've won it eight times, and this was one of my best chances of the week," said Dettori.

"He's ideal for York and nine furlongs seems to be his ideal trip.

"I'm glad he has won and a strong pace suited him because he has run over further. It was a good effort and he's definitely coming back to his best."

Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford said: "He needs to switch off in his races, and needs this trip.

"They went very hard early on so Frankie was able to switch him off - in the past he has raced with the choke out.

"Last year, after he won a good conditions race, we overfaced him a bit and ran him in the Champion Stakes. He has won a Group Three now, this is his kind of company and he'll probably now go for the Prix Dollar."
