Dermot Weld has all but ruled Free Eagle out of the Qipco Irish Champion Stakes but hopes to have the highly regarded colt ready for the KPMG Enterprise Stakes on the same September 13 card on Irish Champions Weekend.

Owned by Moyglare Stud, the High Chaparral colt was sent off the 2-5 favourite to beat Australia in a Group Three at Leopardstown last season.

He was well beaten but was still considered a major player in the Classics for this season.

Unfortunately he suffered a setback in April which ruled him out of the majority of the season, but he is know back in training, with Weld targeting the new Group Three.

"Free Eagle might make the Group Three on Irish Champions Weekend rather than the big race itself," said Weld.

"It is over 10 furlongs on the same day and it looks a nice race to bring him back in.

"So, if I get him ready in time, I think that might be where he'll start back."
