The Austin Leahy-trained Ecoeye made all to run out a gutsy winner of the apprentice handicap at Cork this afternoon.

Ross Coakley bounced out in front on the well backed 5/1 favourite (10/1 this morning) and asked his mount for an effort passing the two pole in the mile contest. Alcatraz tried hard to peg back the front-runner in the closing stages but could only get within a neck at the line.

The winner had been runner-up on his last visit to the course in late March and was stepping back up in trip having run over six at Navan last time.

"He had been running well all year and deserved that win today," said the trainer's daughter and assistant Susan.
