Harnett rounds off memorable day with treble A good day got even better for Paddy Harnett in the finale at Punchestown as he recorded a treble when partnering Buttermere Ridge to success, moving two ahead in the apprentice title race. Oliver McKiernan’s gelding reeled in the front-running Master Garvey a furlong-and-a-half from home and stayed on stoutly in the closing stages to record a length-and-a-half win over Miss Americana. Harnett had also landed the first division of the seven furlong handicap on Tai Bay, having also been successful earlier on Imposing. It completed a remarkable two days for the 3lb claimer, who had also ridden a double at Dundalk yesterday. The winning rider said:- "It's unbelievable. Just things are happening, I'm getting on the right horses. That's basically it I suppose. Luck is on my side. “I just can't thank everyone enough. It's been such a brilliant year. To ride a treble anywhere, at any stage of your career is special. I definitely won't forget it. “My girlfriend, Alison, has been in my ear the last two weeks, telling me to keep the faith, so I better give her a shout. She has been a huge help to me. “So have my mother and father and my uncle Dan at home." (Quotes by John O’Riordan)
