Eddery is hot on Lester`s tail

Pat Eddery scored on Bandanna in the concluding Levy Board Handicap at Bath today to leave himself just two short of Lester Piggott`s career total of 4,493 winners.

Eddery, who has five booked rides at Salisbury tomorrow, said: 'It would be quite a landmark for me to get there and now I`m very close it feels brilliant as I set my sights on beating Lester`s total a couple of years ago.

'I`ve got give rides at Salisbury tomorrow and my best chance of a winner is probably Hiddendale, trained by Brian Meehan, in the six-furlong Listed race.

'After that it will be on to Windsor on Monday night and then to Royal Ascot and I have to say it would be great to get it there at that meeting as its always been a favourite with me.'

Jockeys Richard Quinn and Joe Fanning shared the riding honours with a double apiece.

Quinn took the Charlcombe Maiden Auction Stakes aboard Sharp Wisdom and followed up when Prince Hector landed the Tote betXpress Handicap.

Fanning was on the mark with Affray in the Mike And Anita Gent 25th Wedding Anniversary Classified stakes and Allez Mousson who took the Bath Abbey Handicap.

Shady Deal ran away with the Galaxy 101 Selling Stakes in the hands of Joanna Badger to give the six-year-old`s trainer Simon Earle his first Flat winner.

Apprentice Mark Savage was handed a five-day ban (June 24-28) for irresponsible riding after the stewards found his mount Double Brew had interfered with Dancing Penney approaching the final quarter mile of the race.
