David Marnane believes York could be made to measure for Elleval when he contests the Betfred-sponsored Strensall Stakes on Saturday.

The four-year-old gelding did not enjoy himself on his last visit to Yorkshire, when a distant fifth to the reopposing Custom Cut in a Listed race at Pontefract.

Marnane is, however, optimistic Elleval will be seen in a far better light in the Group Three on the Knavesmire.

The Co Tipperary handler said: "He's in good form and I think he'll appreciate being back on a flatter track.

"He didn't take to Pontefract at all. We knew after furlong it wasn't for him, but in fairness, the race has worked out well with Custom Cut coming out and winning again, and our horse wasn't beaten that far.

"He's been in great form at home since and I think this is the right race for him, so fingers crossed."
