Phillip Enright is hoping to return to the saddle in the coming weeks having been sidelined since the middle of March with a fractured ankle.

The 33-year-old rider suffered the injury in a fall at Naas the Sunday before the Cheltenham Festival and is scheduled to meet surgeon Paddy Kenny tomorrow for an update.

“Phillip broke his ankle and had an operation to insert two plates. He’s been out for six weeks and hopefully will get some good news tomorrow when he visits Paddy Kenny,” said Enright’s agent Ken Whelan.

Enright enjoyed his best ever season last year with 37 winners and was on course to beat that mark (33 winners this term) until injury intervened. “He’s like a good wine, he’s getting better with age!” quipped Whelan before adding, “His last two seasons have been his best and he’s had a lot of rides.”

The County Kerry born rider had winners for 18 different trainers this season, with the Mouse Morris-trained Sams Profile providing one of the highlights in the Grade 2 John Mulhern Galmoy Hurdle at Gowran Park.
