Philip Enright rode his first flat winner, “on my first time coming out of starting stalls,” when getting 9/2 chance Back Track home by a nose in a highweight flat handicap at Murray Bridge today. The Adelaide track hosted the first leg of the Irish vs Australia Jump Jockeys Challenge.

Ben Dalton finished third on Afrisky Business and that one's trainer Liz Faust insisted that Dalton lodge a “protest,” two to be exact. Against the second horse Rampur, ridden by local jockey Aaron Lynch, for interference at the 200m mark, and against the winner for interference at the 100m mark. Both protests were dismissed. Paul Townend was fourth while Declan Bates finished last on a 50/1 chance.

Head of Stewards, John Hales, already appraised of Dalton's unease in the Stewards' room at home, surmised that the rider must be getting used to it. But the hearing was a prolonged one, according to team manager Sean Lynch, it went on for 25 minutes and battle hardened jumps rider Enright admitted to “shaking like a leaf.”

Nothing like softening up the home opposition ahead of Saturday's big Morphettville Irish Day meeting. The visitors lead 10 ½ points to 7 ½.
