Epona Plays is pleasing trainer Willie McCreery ahead of a crack at the Group 2 Lanwades Stud Stakes over a mile at the Curragh on Saturday.

The daughter of Australia added to a Grade 3 win in the Denny Cordell Lavarack & Lanwades Stud Fillies Stakes at Gowran Park last September by successfully carrying a penalty on her reappearance at the same level in the Lodge Park Stud Irish EBF Park Express Stakes at Naas in March.

McCreery is unconcerned by ground conditions for his adaptable filly saying, “She’s a good moving filly. I know there are showers forecast during the week and she handled soft ground well last time but she also has form on good ground. I wouldn’t be worried about the ground.

“She seems in great form and has done well since winning at Naas. I’m looking forward to getting her out.”

Epona Plays hails from a family that has done Italian owner/breeder Renzo Forni and McCreery proud as half-sister Dolce Strega won the Group 3 Athasi Stakes and Bumbasina, also out of the dam New Plays, won twice and was Listed placed.
