Europe on track for Kauto clash

Henry de Bromhead is confident Sizing Europe has improved for his seasonal reappearance behind China Rock at Punchestown.

Last season's Arkle winner will face an even stiffer test on Saturday as the eight-year-old is due to lock horns with Kauto Star, undoubtedly the class act of the National Hunt scene for the past five years.

The Punchestown event was Sizing Europe's first run over a trip further than two-and-a-half miles and he steps up to three miles for the JNwine.com Champion Chase at Down Royal on Saturday.

"We are planning to run Sizing Europe in what looks like an ultra-competitive renewal of he JNwine.com Champion Chase," De Bromhead told his website.

"He's been very well since Punchestown and has definitely improved for the run in terms of fitness. We're stepping him up in trip again and we're all very much looking forward to the race."

As well as Kauto Star, classy chasers such as Trafford Lad, the long-term absentee Mossbank and the reopposing China Rock are all entered for the Grade One event.

Ladbrokes have issued prices on the event: 1/2 Kauto Star, 4/1 Sizing Europe, 7/1 China Rock, 14/1 Trafford Lad, 16/1 Killyglen, 20/1 Finger On The Pulse, 33/1 Coolcashin and 33/1 Mossbank.
