Eustace Set For Late Start

Dual Champion Hurdle winner Hardy Eustace will not be seen out until Christmas at the earliest, with Dessie Hughes having mapped out a slightly different campaign for his stable star.

The eight-year-old will have a later start to the season than in previous years with Hughes eyeing either the Bewleys Hotels December Festival Hurdle or the AIG Europe Champion Hurdle as a starting point.

“We only brought him in this week so it will probably be Christmas before you see him again,” Hughes told At The Races.

“We left him out as the weather was so fine for so long. We were in no real hurry and he doesn´t show much until after Christmas anyway.

“He will either run at the Christmas meeting at Leopardstown, or if not, the January meeting at Leopardstown.

“We have brought him out earlier in the past but he hasn´t done any good. He is a spring horse so hopefully after Cheltenham we will be able to go to Liverpool or Punchestown this year.”
