Ewing & Effernock chase Welsh Champion Hurdle glory Sam Ewing will be hoping to make it three winners in as many days as he partners Effernock Fizz in the feature at Ffos Las this afternoon, the DragonBet Welsh Champion Hurdle. The Co Antrim native has been busy in recent days and was in action at Downpatrick and Dundalk on Friday, winning aboard Mads Black Eight at the all-weather venue. He was again successful on the evergreen Peregrine Run in the Native River Handicap Chase at Chepstow on Saturday, with the Peter Fahey-trained gelding notching-up an astonishing twentieth career success. Effernock Fizz faces six rivals at the west Wales venue, just a week on from finishing an excellent second in the Grade 3 Horse & Jockey Hotel Hurdle at Tipperary. The versatile seven-year-old is up against some highly rated rivals, with top-weight Glory And Fortune out to retain his crown. Trained by Tom Lacey, the Fame And Glory gelding was an excellent fifth to Honeysuckle in the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham in March and makes his seasonal debut in this near two-mile contest. Second in the Galway Hurdle of 2021, Milkwood is sure to have plenty of supporters, while Gin Coco is another leading hope. The Harry Fry-trained latter was last seen finishing second to Broomfield Hall at the Punchestown Festival in April, with that one giving the form a timely boost by scoring at Fairyhouse yesterday. Hardy De Seuil and Severance are also capable of making their presence felt, while outsider Zambezi Fix completes the line-up.
