Exchange Place Betting Investigation Betting exchanges have seldom been far from the news since their initiation. Today it came to light that a six-month study of betting patterns on the exchanges and on Britain's racecourses has unearthed some suspicious incidents that are to be reported to the Jockey Club.Place betting offered by Betfair and many of its competitors seems to be coming under the closest scrutiny. An example carried in today's press, cited a recent case where place odds offered on an online exchange drifted from 3/1 to 30/1, whilst the same horse's win odds at the track only moved from 12/1 to 16/1.The animal in question ran unplaced, raising the obvious question of people with privileged information using it for financial gain. Racefax Monitoring Service who carried out the study have identified 52 ?major incidents' in the last six months, all in connection with the place-betting market.Communications director of the aforementioned market leader, Betfair, Mark Davies said his firm would be delighted to help in any investigation, making the point that they had all the information at their disposal.
