Exciting Rasharrow Back At The Weekend

Cheltenham Champion Bumper third Rasharrow will make his eagerly-awaited debut over timber at either Kelso or Aintree this weekend.

Len Lungo has entered the six-year-old in the Play Blackjack At intercasino.com Maiden Hurdle at Liverpool, but is favouring a trip to a more local venue for the P.A. Developments Sunday Market 'National Hunt' Novices´ Hurdle.

'Where he goes depends on the ground but I am favouring Kelso at the moment,' said Lungo. 'It is a nice local meeting for us and the owners are handy to go there.

'Providing Kelso get the rain and the ground is on the easy side of good, he will go there, but if they are good to firm and Aintree is on the soft side, he will go to Aintree.

'I wouldn´t run on fast ground at all but the horse is ready to run and has been ready for two weeks now - I´ve just been waiting for the owners to come back off holiday.'

Rasharrow burst on the scene with a five-length success at Wetherby last November before his most promising run at Cheltenham when he finished just a length behind Missed That.

'I am very happy with him. He is as fit as a fiddle and we are looking forward to running him,' Lungo continued.

'He has had a good summer but did quite a bit of schooling before he went to grass. We have a jumping lane here and he has been jumping a lot of poles on the sand and rubber until the ground eased, and has been back over hurdles the last couple of weeks.

'I think he has got every chance of being one of the top novices but I am not sure of his trip. He is not short of speed, he can change gear and go but he is bred to stay.

'He is much more settled and relaxed this year as he used to be a bit keen but I can´t make definite plans for him as I don´t if he is a two-miler or a two and a half miler.'

The Ayr winner will be without regular partner Tony Dobbin on his seasonal debut with the jockey having to watch from the sidelines after injuring his elbow on the gallops last Friday.

'Bruce Gibson will ride with Tony being out and he has done all of the schooling on him,' added Lungo. 'The horse settles well for Bruce and knows him as he rides him every day.'
