Excuse emerges for Voleuse run Dermot Weld's Voleuse De Coeurs scoped dirty after finishing third as a beaten favourite in the Curragh Cup on Sunday. The four-year-old filly was sent off at 6/4 having won a Listed race at Navan on her reappearance, looking a cut above her rivals on that occasion. She had also won the Irish Cesarewitch last season and connections were initially disappointed by her eclipse. However, now they have a valid excuse, a crack at the Irish St Leger and an entry for the Melbourne Cup are possibilities. "As soon as Pat Smullen jumped off her he said she'd run flat and that he knew she wouldn't win after 100 yards," said James Kelly, racing manager to owner Lady O'Reilly. "We had her scoped and it returned full of mucus so she was sent back to the farm for 10 days to recuperate and will go back to Dermot's next Thursday if all is well. "All roads now lead to the Irish St Leger - it's a race Lady O'Reilly would love to win. "She might run in the Leger Trial at the end of August and there's also a Group Two in France to consider and the Cadran on Arc day. She'll also get an entry in the Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster. "We know that performance was not within 20lb of what she is capable of. Dermot was very confident heading there as he thought she had improved enormously for her first run. "Initially we thought she'd been beaten because of the quick ground, but Pat said that wasn't an issue at all, she just ran flat. "A few of Dermot's disappointed at the weekend - it was her class that got her where she was. "We're looking forward to getting her back on track. She'll definitely have an entry in the Melbourne Cup, as well, because she proved she can go on the ground."
